Neva Jo Lewis, age 60, of Tishomingo, Oklahoma, passed away on April 2, 2024, in Tishomingo. Neva, a longtime resident of Tishomingo, was born on July 29, 1963, in Ada, Oklahoma. She was known for her career at Carter Seminary and her involvement with the First Indian Baptist of Tishomingo. She was a chartered member and her dad was the preacher for many years.
Neva's hobbies included story-telling, arts and crafts, native walks, and Bigfoot research. She was a beloved grandmother figure to many in the community and was considered the traditional Chickasaw matriarch of her family. Neva's kind nature brought out the best in everyone she met.
She is survived by her husband, Christopher Daniel Detar Sr; daughters Angiela Lewis and Adrienne Detar Triplett (and husband Mark); sons Clendon Nelson and Christopher Daniel Detar II (and wife Larissa Taylor); brother David Lewis; sisters Lawanna Haiakanubbi, Carla John, and Sheila John; Angela John; grandchildren Zachery Shawn Floyd, Julian Don Floyd and (and spouse Emily Black), Breanna Michelle Floyd Dorion Underwood, Samuel Colt Triplett, Bear Minko Triplett; and great-grandchild Guinevere Gracelyn Anae Floyd.
Neva was preceded in death by her father, David Lewis Sr; mother, Juanita Wisdom; and granddaughter, Brooklyn Anae Triplett.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, April 7th, from 2-4 pm at Hartwell Funeral Home in Tishomingo. Funeral services will take place on Monday, April 8th, at 10 a.m. at Calvary Baptist Church.
